MOMBASA ASPIRANTS PETITION JOHO HASSAN VICTORY

Mombasa Aspirants Petition Joho, Hassan Victory

Mombasa Gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal and a voter, Salim Karama have moved to court to file a petition challenging the election of Ali Hassan Joho as the Mombasa County Governor, Hassan Omar as the Mombasa Senator and Badi Twalib as the Jomvu Member of the National Assembly. The two allege that the election process was flawed.
Shahbal, who lost the gubernatorial seat to Joho, filed a petition at the Constitutional Court in Nairobi challenging the election outcome before proceeding to the IEBC headquarters in Mombasa County where he handed a protest letter regarding the election process.
“We are disputing every single ward representative election, we are disputing the results of four or five constituencies, we are disputing the governors’ election and we are challenging all these in court,” said Shahbal.

At the same time, a voter Salim Karama, who was represented by his lawyer, Esther Wangari, demanded the nullification of the Mombasa Senatorial Seat elect and the Jomvu parliamentary seat outcome. The voter argued that the elections were marred with irregularities and called on the Government not to gazette them as winners until after the cases were heard and determined.
