WOMEN'S SITUATION ROOM REPORT


A Women’s lobby group that was keenly observing Kenya’s General Election commended the Independepnt Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for carrying out a successful election. This report was released by the Women’s Situation Room in Kenya, which was keenly observing the elections and ready to respond to the request made by women in various parts of the country.

The Women’s Situation Room  noted that the General election conducted on March 4th, had been smooth though marred with slightly over 500 incidents of insecurity, violence and gender-based violence. 

Situation Room also noted that there had been leaflets  on sexist attacks on Women candidates who would participate in the election that had been distributed.  The Group that is made up of local Eminent persons  backed by Eminent women from a number of countries also noted reorts of social media sexists attacks on women candidates who would participate in the elections.

The Women’s Situation Room Kenya urged women to continue pursuing the course of leadership noting that in the history of Kenya the elections had seen a large number of women in the National and County Assemblies expected to take oath of office. The Women’s Situation Room is a process that aims at mobilizing, harnessing and employing the expertise and experiences of women in taking action to prevent or mitigate potential conflict that could emerge before, during and after the elections.
