MINOR AND BUSINESSMAN CHARGED OVER HATE LEAFLETS


A 17-year old form two drop-out was today arraigned in court alongside a businessman for allegedly distributing inciting leaflets in the city. Stephen Omondi who is a businessman in Nairobi alleged to be running a printing company on 28th February at Simba Centre along river road printed words which were calculated to incite violence. Police claim that they were in pocession of over 900 copies that had been printed at the Centre. Separately the 17 year old minor is alleged to have in the company of others distributed leaflets around Kilimani area. The words were said to have the intent to stir up ethnic hatred. The minor is alleged to have been arrested while carrying photocopies of the hate leaflets, while his accomplice has since been arrested and is to be arrainged in court after the elections. The two denied the charges before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Kiarie Waweru and were however remanded in custody till 11th March pending further investigations. Police have also launched a crackdown on people printing and distributing hate leaflets and those calling on some communities to vacate their current areas of stay.
